Botanical Description

Styrax benzoin is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, particularly Sumatra. It produces a balsamic resin exuded from incisions made in the bark. Once hardened, the resin forms amber to reddish-brown tears with a characteristic warm, vanilla-like aroma. The tree itself bears ovate leaves and small white flowers, but the resin is the primary material of botanical value.
